Water and Wastewater Pump Station Switchgear RFQ Guide

RFQ inputs for MV supply, RMU, LV switchboards, MCC, PLC pump controls, VFDs, soft starters and SCADA interfaces.

Prepared by: JCON ELECUpdated:

Short answer

Start a water or wastewater RFQ with the single-line diagram, pump/motor schedule and control narrative. Separate distribution boards, MCC starters and PLC/SCADA interfaces; specify duty/standby operation, starting method and site environment. Pumps, instruments, process design and commissioning are included only when the quotation explicitly says so.

Define electrical supply and pump-control requirements together

Water treatment plants, wastewater plants and pumping stations combine distribution with process controls. List equipment quantities and interfaces by system so suppliers can price the same scope.

  • MV switchgear or RMU for incoming supply, metering, protection and transformer feeders.
  • Transformers and LV boards for the main bus, outgoing feeders, auxiliaries and compensation.
  • MCC and pump controls with PLC, VFDs or soft starters, including duty and standby functions as specified.
  • Local HMI, telemetry, alarms and SCADA interfaces only as defined in the project requirements.

How to compare supplier quotations

Ratings and componentsCompare electrical duty, breakers, starter/VFD ratings, specified brands and enclosure protection.
Automation boundaryIdentify PLC programming, HMI screens, field instruments, gateways, commissioning and remote monitoring as included or excluded.
Environment and coolingReview corrosion protection, ventilation, heaters, condensation measures and cable interfaces against actual site conditions.
Testing and handoverAgree FAT scope, drawing approval, as-built documents, spares, packing, freight and delivery responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

Which electrical equipment may a pump-station package include?Depending on the SLD, it may include MV switchgear or RMU, transformers, LV main boards, MCC, PLC pump-control panels, VFDs, soft starters, ATS and communications. Confirm the exact scope in the offer.
What information is needed for a pump-control cabinet RFQ?Provide motor ratings and quantities, duty/standby operation, starting method, control narrative, I/O, level/pressure signals, interlocks, protocol, required brands, IP rating and environment.
Does a PLC cabinet quotation include plant SCADA and pump commissioning? Not automatically. Programming, HMI/SCADA integration, field instruments, pumps and site commissioning must be identified and priced within an agreed responsibility schedule.

Sources and scope

JCON ELEC prepared this procurement checklist to organize equipment, document and interface requirements. Product pages describe equipment families; cited standards and manufacturer material are technical references, not proof of JCON certification, authorization or completed projects. Final ratings, compliance, responsibilities and delivery scope require approved project documents and an agreed offer.
