10kV Industrial Switchgear, Transformer and LV Switchboard Package

Define the combined scope for MV switchgear, 10/0.4kV transformers, kiosk, LV switchboards and auxiliary systems in an industrial project.

Prepared by: JCON ELECUpdated:

Short answer

A 10kV industrial package should be quoted from one coordinated single-line diagram, with separate prices for MV switchgear, transformers, LV switchboards, any kiosk and auxiliary power. Confirm fault duty, protection, transformer interfaces, DC loads and installation boundaries before comparing totals; a budget offer is not an approved construction design.

Prefabricated substation production, illustrating a coordinated equipment package

Define one coordinated package, not unrelated equipment totals

A combined offer can cover incoming MV distribution, transformer interfaces and LV loads, but each system still needs a stated scope. Use the same drawing revision and equipment schedule across all suppliers.

  • MV panels: incoming VCB, PT/metering, transformer outgoing feeders and any bus tie shown on the SLD.
  • Transformers: specify quantity, kVA, voltage ratio, oil-filled or dry type, accessories and required documents.
  • LV distribution: main boards, motor or compressor boards, ATS, compensation and auxiliaries as scheduled.
  • List the kiosk, DC charger and batteries, control equipment, cables and site services separately; none is automatically included.

Information to include in the RFQ

System and fault dataSLD and revision, supply voltage/frequency, busbar rating, short-circuit duty and duration, earthing, relay functions and CT/PT data.
TransformersQuantity, kVA, ratio, vector group, impedance, cooling, loss requirements, tap arrangement, dimensions and accessories.
Control and auxiliary suppliesAC/DC voltages, protection/trip loads, battery autonomy requirement, charger/battery scope, metering and communication interfaces.
LV loads and brandsFeeder and motor schedules, starting methods, incomers/bus ties, interlocks, spare circuits and required component series.
Installation and commercial scopeKiosk or electrical-room layout, access, ventilation, cable entry, environment, documents, FAT, packing, named delivery place and exclusions.

How to compare supplier quotations

Itemized packagePrice MV panels, each transformer, LV boards, kiosk and auxiliary systems separately, with quantities and document revisions.
DC system sizingDo not infer battery capacity from panel quantity. Confirm load profile, autonomy, charger duty and the party responsible for calculations.
Technical complianceRequest datasheets, GA drawings, BOM/brands, applicable test evidence and an explicit deviation schedule. A standard reference alone is not a certificate.
Cost alternativesKeep the specified-brand compliant offer as the base. Present any optimization separately with technical impact and obtain approval before substitution.
Budget versus final offerMark assumptions and exclusions in a preliminary offer. Freeze drawings, responsibilities and delivery basis before confirming the final commercial commitment.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 10kV package automatically include a kiosk and transformers? No. The quotation must state each item, quantity and interface. Transformers, enclosure, cables, civil works and installation must be included or excluded explicitly.
How should DC batteries and the charger be specified?Provide DC voltage, connected protection/control/trip loads and required autonomy. Confirm the load calculation, battery selection, charger duty, accessories and test responsibilities during technical review.
Can the package be optimized to reduce cost?A separately identified alternative can be reviewed against the same required performance. Do not replace required brands or change fault ratings, safety functions or scope without customer approval.

Sources and scope

JCON ELEC prepared this procurement checklist to organize equipment, document and interface requirements. Product pages describe equipment families; cited standards and manufacturer material are technical references, not proof of JCON certification, authorization or completed projects. Final ratings, compliance, responsibilities and delivery scope require approved project documents and an agreed offer.
